Una Corda (Soft Pedal tune) – PianoTweet no. 47 (Replay)

(text below written on Febr. 16th 2011)

Today’s PianoTweet, Una Corda (italian for “one string”)
is a small part of a longer piece I recorded years ago.
It was played while the left pedal was pushed down all the time.

Normally the hammers of the piano hit all strings.
So you hear the usual, full sound.
When pushing this “soft pedal” down,
the whole keyboard shifts a little bit to the right,
causing the hammers to hit only one or two strings.
This creates a soft, a kind of sleepy effect in the piano’s sound.

For me this effect stands for a special mild and soft mood;
today I felt this mood very strongly and clearly present.

Of course it’s not the first time being in that mood.
But sometimes I just feel that way…
